• Our next repair day is Saturday 9th May.

What we can do

Whilst we will give most things a go ( and our success rate is about 60% ), there are some things that we are especially good at.

Here’s a list of our main types of skills.

  • Mechanical repairs: Often, things just need to be glued back together to get them working again. We stock a range of glues and have experts to decide which glue is the most suitable.
  • Electrical repairs: We have several members with excellent knowledge of general electric repairs. Issues like defective wiring, broken plugs, contact problems in switches and the like can easily be fixed and given a new lease of life. All mains electrical items will be PAT tested before and after repair.
  • Clocks, both mechanical and battery: Our clock worker has an extensive experience in the repair of all sorts of wind up devices. This covers mechanical, electric/battery clocks as well as pocket watches and musical boxes.
  • Jewellery: We have repairers experts in beading.
  • Garments: We have several ladies with extensive knowledge in any kind of needle work, be it by hand or using sewing machines.
  • Sharpening: We have a bench grinder and one of our repairers has ample experience in sharpening anything from nail clippers to massive garden shears, including household knives, scissors, secateurs, etc.

There are however some limitations to what we can do. One particular example is modern electronics. Very often these include SMD (surface mounted device) components which are almost impossible to replace without specialised machinery (which we do not have).

We also are limited in the repair of furniture, as these repairs very often require glue which will not set in the 4 hours the cafe is open on each day. We do however have repairers that will take on such repairs on a commercial basis for very reasonable money.

But please don’t forget:- “Difficult things take a long time, impossible things a little longer”
